Microsoft, NVIDIA Back Anthropic in Major AI Partnership

Microsoft and NVIDIA are making massive bets on Anthropic's Claude AI models through new strategic partnerships announced today. The agreements represent one of the most significant AI infrastructure investments this year, with both companies committing substantial funding to scale Anthropic's technology across enterprise platforms.

Anthropic will scale its Claude AI models on Microsoft Azure, powered by NVIDIA's hardware infrastructure. This collaboration will broaden enterprise access to Claude through Azure's AI Foundry service, giving businesses expanded model choices alongside Microsoft's existing AI offerings. The partnership makes Claude the only frontier large language model available across all three major cloud platforms.

As part of the deal, Anthropic has committed to purchasing $30 billion worth of Azure compute capacity and contracting additional capacity up to 1 gigawatt. This substantial compute commitment will initially utilize NVIDIA's Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, representing a significant expansion of Anthropic's AI training and inference capabilities.

NVIDIA and Anthropic are establishing their first deep technology partnership to optimize future AI architectures. The companies will collaborate on design and engineering work aimed at improving Anthropic model performance, efficiency, and total cost of ownership while tailoring NVIDIA's future hardware specifically for Anthropic workloads.

Microsoft is expanding its existing relationship with Anthropic to provide broader Claude access across its Copilot ecosystem. This includes continued integration with GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio, ensuring developers and enterprise users maintain access to Anthropic's models alongside Microsoft's AI tools.

Anthropic's frontier models, including Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5, will become available to Azure AI Foundry customers.
